The Respiratory and Glycolytic Enzymes

چکیده
A number of workers have studied the carbohydrate metabolism of sea-urchin eggs and have expressed different opinions about the pathway of carbohydrate breakdown in these eggs. The choice has rested between the breakdown of hexose via the 'hexose monophosphate shunt' and a glycolytic mechanism like that in yeast and muscle, followed by oxidation via the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Rothschild (1951) has summarized the evidence on this question. In listing the evidence in favour of the latter view, Rothschild included work reported in the author's Ph.D. thesis (Y£as, 1950). Some of these results are presented in this paper. The evidence for a normal glycolytic and respiratory system has since been greatly extended by Cleland & Rothschild (1952a, b).

Banana Ripening: Implications of Changes in Internal Ethylene and CO(2) Concentrations, Pulp Fructose 2,6-Bisphosphate Concentration, and Activity of Some Glycolytic Enzymes.
In ripening banana (Musa acuminata L. [AAA group, Cavandish subgroup] cv. Valery) fruit, the steady state concentration of the glycolytic regulator fructose 2,6-bisphosphate (Fru 2,6-P(2)) underwent a transient increase 2 to 3 hours before the respiratory rise, but coincident with the increase in ethylene synthesis. Fru 2,6-P(2) concentration subsequently decreased, but increased again approxim...
متن کاملNetwork of Surface-Displayed Glycolytic Enzymes in Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Their Interactions with Human Plasminogen.
In different bacteria, primarily cytosolic and metabolic proteins are characterized as surface localized and interacting with different host factors. These moonlighting proteins include glycolytic enzymes, and it has been hypothesized that they influence the virulence of pathogenic species. The presence of surface-displayed glycolytic enzymes and their interaction with human plasminogen as an i...
متن کاملDynamics of glycolytic regulation during adaptation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to fermentative metabolism.
The ability of baker's yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) to rapidly increase its glycolytic flux upon a switch from respiratory to fermentative sugar metabolism is an important characteristic for many of its multiple industrial applications. An increased glycolytic flux can be achieved by an increase in the glycolytic enzyme capacities (V(max)) and/or by changes in the concentrations of low-mole...

Background & Aim: Hexokinase and pyruvate kinase are two regulatory enzymes of glycolytic pathway in erythrocytes. Increasing evidence suggests that cigarette smoking which produces free radicals and oxidative stress can cause damage to body macromolecules such as proteins and enzymes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the susceptibility of key enzymes of erythrocytes glycolyt...
متن کاملGlycolysis Is Dynamic and Relates Closely to Respiration Rate in Stored Sugarbeet Roots
Although respiration is the principal cause of the loss of sucrose in postharvest sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.), the internal mechanisms that control root respiration rate are unknown. Available evidence, however, indicates that respiration rate is likely to be controlled by the availability of respiratory substrates, and glycolysis has a central role in generating these substrates. To determine...
